The KEC Alternative Programs are
designed for students grades 7th-12th
who are having difficulty staying in school. Some examples of
factors preventing school success may be: poor attendance,
poor grades, low standardized test scores in reading and/or
math, non-native English language.
This
program helps students get back on track
by offering classes in reading, language arts, math, English
as a Second Language (ESL), and other academic subjects
necessary to improve the student’s basic skills. Classes
also offer small enrollments with individualized instruction
when necessary.
Alternative Programs also
stress the importance of teamwork, self-esteem, and life
skills development. Transitional Education relies heavily
on Computer Assisted Instruction to provide a broad
spectrum of curriculum at appropriate ability levels.
Junior high/middle school students may receive promotions,
and high school students may earn high school credit in
courses successfully completed in the program.
The Alternative Programs are an
opportunity for students to get a new start in the
educational system. They are designed to help students who
have had difficulty in a traditional school setting.
Students and parents should view this as an opportunity
that is not offered to everyone.
