How can I become involved?

Advisory Committees  Business partners assist both the Kishwaukee Education Consortium and Kishwaukee College in developing curriculum and implementing skills standards. Use your technical knowledge to enhance classroom skills.

Business Tour for Students  Students need a reality check in their career development process. Allowing students to visit your business and/or organization can provide them with information to make career decisions and develop future plans. Opening your business' doors can open a student's future.

Business Tour for Teachers  Teachers, counselors, and educational administrators normally do not have the opportunity to visit business and industry. Yet, these very influential people are assisting in the career development of the future workforce. Providing a business tour for educators can reach many students, over an extended period of time. Host a tour for educator's during our "Linking Leaders in Business and Industry." Give teachers a first-hand look at your work environment and the many career paths available within your industry.

Classroom Presentation  An important part of any student's career development is hearing from someone who is actively working in business and industry. Experienced individuals are needed to visit the classroom and present the business perspective of workforce requirements. Schedule your classroom visit today.

Educator's Internship Program  This valuable one- to four-week teaming experience allows business and education to exchange information about the world of work. A teacher, counselor, or educational administrator "interns" in your place of business for up to 20 work days. During this time, the educational partner works as part of your workforce and experiences the pace and work requirements of your business. Sponsor an educator in your workplace today.

Eighth Grade Career Conference   Approximately 600 eighth graders throughout the district attend Kishwaukee College for one day in March to learn about careers and education and training expectations. You can participate in this event by making a classroom presentation and informing 8th graders about occupational expectations. Informational handouts and souvenirs are welcome. Start a student on their career path by participating in the Eighth Grade Career Conference.

High School/College Career Fair and Employer Day  The annual High School/Kishwaukee College career fair is held in April of each year. High School students, college students and community members visit the Kishwaukee College gymnasium to looking for full- or part-time employment, internships and summer employment. High School students will be actively engaged in career exploration. Participate in the Career Fair to meet your workforce needs and to provide career information.

Job Shadowing Experience  Job shadowing goes beyond a tour of your facility. During a job shadowing experience, the student "shadows" a member of your workforce for one day. The student learns about workplace culture and expectations through observation techniques and dialoguing with incumbent workers. Involve your workforce in the career development of the next generation.
