This course offers classroom
and laboratory instruction in basic diesel, heavy equipment
mechanics and small engines to prepare for entry in related
occupations or advanced education. Learning activities allow
students to become knowledgeable in the fundamental aspects of
safety practices, use of hand and power tools, diagnosis of
malfunctions, fuel systems, disassembly and inspection,
reconditioning, measuring, and assembling of heavy equipment
components. Welding is taught as it applies to Diesel
Power. Successful completion of this course is the basis
for the Kishwaukee College Diesel Power Technology Certificate and
Associate Degree (A.A.S.) Program. DPT 101, DPT 175
& DPT 199 are the courses for which students may earn
college credit. Students provide their own
safety goggles.

Prerequisite: "C"
grade average and/or consent of instructor.
This course offers more
laboratory experience using the skills learned in Diesel 1
class. The student will learn trouble-shooting techniques for
diesel engines and diesel fuel systems. Most of the projects for Diesel 2 class
will be actual running engines brought in to simulate an
equipment service shop. Diesel 2 students will also be called
upon from time to time to give class demonstrations for Diesel
1 students. Successful Completion of this course is the basis
for the Kishwaukee College Diesel Power Technology Certificate and
Associate Degree (A.A.S.) Program. DPT 172 & DPT 177 are
the courses for which students may earn college credit. Students provide their own
safety goggles. Level 2 students will meet Monday-Thursday
from 1-3pm and may have to provide their own
transportation.
